At the invitation Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, China’s Premier Wen Jiabao will be paying a visit to Russia from Monday 27 October. The two leaders will be meeting in Moscow to discuss a number of issues of mutual concern, including the current global financial crisis and Russia-China trade, with a view to further strengthening the already strong ties between the two countries.
Australian Minister for Trade, Simon Crean, is set to co-chair the third Australia-China High-level Economic Cooperation Dialogue (HECD) to be held in Canberra on Wednesday 22 October. Zhang Ping, Chairman of China’s key economic planning agency the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) will represent China’s interests in the talks.
Authorities in China have revealed that the country’s trade surplus hit a record high of US$28.7 billion in the month of August. According to custom’s data, China’s exports for the month of August amounted to US$134.9 billion, reflecting an increase of 21.1 percent compared with the same period last year, while imports increased by 23.1 percent, reaching a figure of US$106.2 billion. China’s trade surplus with its biggest trading partner the European Union, rose by 25 percent, while its trade surplus with the U.S. increased by 16.6 percent.
