On 22 March 1971, Kuwait and China embarked on a journey of diplomatic ties that has now lasted forty years, and both countries are looking towards the future. A celebration to mark the successful relationship between China and Kuwait, in regard to trade, politics, culture and investment, was held and attended by dignitaries and invited guests. Both sides agreed that their continued successful relations are made possible by mutual respect, such as Kuwait supporting China's policies for territorial veracity and national reunification that they protect. And looking at the trade volume, that has increased by sixty eight percent over the last year, to 8.45 billion U.S. dollars, is proof that their ties are growing stronger.
Signed in the city of Chongqing in southwestern mainland China on 29 June 2010, the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) between Taiwan (Republic of China) and mainland China (People’s Republic of China) aims to overcome barriers to trade between the two parties. At the time of signing, the agreement was seen as a huge step in bridging the gap between the two sides that had been created by the Chinese Civil War in 1949.
The U.S. been trying to convince China to take the necessary step to allow expansion and growth of their currency for a while now; after giving some thought to expansion plans and the development of the yuan, China has now introduced new laws and regulations in regard to the exchange of yuan, which they hope will assist in the promotion and development of the currency as well as the economy. Great excitement has surrounded the latest announcement, which will come into effect on 1 March 2011. It is a historical moment for China and foreign investors will be able to trade more easily from now on.
There has always been a good relationship between Russia and China in regard to trade. As China faces growth at an alarming rate, and is providing assistance to the Russian Government in regard to funding projects, Premier Wen Jiabao hopes that his visit to Russia, starting on Monday, 29 November 2010, will strengthen their bond and they can work together to negotiate a new gas price agreement between the two countries. Russia is looking towards outsourcing more of its energy market to China, and in the scheduled meetings it is believed that China and Russia can find a way to benefit from an amended energy agreement.
According to the Chinese Ambassador to South Africa, Mr. Zhong Jianhua, the visit made to China by South African President, Jacob Zuma, at the end of August, only strengthened the bond between the two countries, which have enjoyed a friendship for many years and now look towards an even brighter future. He went on to say that the bond between the two countries is advantageous in many respects, including technology, human resources, finance and various markets. The potential of the relationship between China and South Africa is predicted to strengthen as well as boost economy and trade.
The increasing buying power of Chinese consumers has significantly boosted the domestic market in China, while at the same time providing a market for goods brought into the country. Recently, authorities from France and China held talks to strengthen trade and economic ties between the countries, noting that consumers in China would benefit from access to French products, particularly where France has advanced technology, such as in the fields of energy saving and environmental protection, as well as in the efficient processing of agricultural products.
The largest world exhibition of all time opened up in Shanghai. “The Expo is the biggest showcase of international display that Chinese will have ever seen. It is a great chance to further strengthen the image of Switzerland and Swiss companies, which are a very important component of the Swiss image”, says Nicolas Musy, Managing Director of Swiss Center Shanghai (SCS). SCS, the largest cluster of Swiss enterprises in China, is a non-profit organization that facilitates the market entry of companies in the Far East. “Chinese decision makers see Swiss companies as very reliable, accurate and professional – especially in the machinery and precision industries. This is a good chance to cultivate this image”, states Mr. Musy.
